The Yale brand is internationally-recognised and boasts an enviable reputation for supplying superior-quality security products. Known as "The World's Favourite Lock", Yale products continue to provide millions of people with peace-of-mind every day.
Founded as the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company by Henry R. Towne and pin-tumbler lock inventor Linus Yale, Jr. in 1868, Yale is one of the oldest international brands. It established its UK operations when it took over a business in Willenhall, historically the centre of the UK lock industry, where it quickly became the largest employer in the area. So successful was the business that 'Yale lock' became a generic term for any pin-tumbler lock in the UK. The fledgling motor industry was a perfect place for Yale to extend its operations. Supplying locks to a number of well-known car manufacturers up until the early 1930s, Yale became ever more successful; the jewel in their crown was luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce, whose lock requirements were furnished by Yale up until 1991.
Yale is now owned by Swedish company Assa Abloy, the largest lock manufacturer in the world based on annual sales. Currently involved in major relocation that will be completed by early 2013, the company continue to provide an extensive range of high-quality locks for a variety of uses.
