With a rich history going back five generations, Mercer & Sons Architectural Ironmongery have a long reputation of providing quality goods at fair prices. These aspects, teamed with a dedication to providing the highest levels of customer service, have allowed our business to grow and evolve through more than 170 years of successful trading, surviving a multitude of political changes and the steady decline of ironmongers as DIY supermarkets gradually take over.
Thomas Turner Mercer established the roots of our business today, opening an ironmonger's shop in 1840. The shop quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality products and competitive prices, allowing Thomas to begin extending his operations. As Thomas approached retirement, his sons took over the business and began trading as Mercer Brothers; the brothers were known for the company's distinctive horse and trap, which wasn't replaced by a lorry until 1949. Constantly advancing, in 1967 the company began developing its steel stockholders division by purchasing the Pump Street Mill Warehouses, from where Mercer & Sons continue to trade today.
The term ironmongery historically referred solely to the iron goods produced and sold by the company. Today, an ironmongery is equivalent to a hardware store, providing a whole range of tools, appliances and accessories fabricated from many different materials. The Mercer & Sons product portfolio is vast and covers a spectrum of applications; included in our selection are sealants, washroom accessories, screws, bathroom and kitchen fittings, hinges, pipes & pipe fittings, locks, safes and much more. Power tools are a speciality of Mercer & Sons and our recently-refurbished and modernised Trade Centre features hands-on displays of tools from leading manufacturers such as Festool,DEWalt, Trend and Metabo. Highly-trained staff are always on hand to offer clear, relevant advice.
Mercer & Sons employ a specialist internal sales team to offer competitive quotes on our product range and we can also source any other item on request. Our years of successful trading have allowed us to forge strong links with our suppliers, meaning that we are almost always successful at sourcing products at a realistic lead time and low price.
